Improving the Management and Oversight of Public Housing

We are working to address and implement the Auditor General’s recommendations from both the June 2022 and January 2023 reports and are on track to complete recommendations on our committed timelines. 

NSPHA’s legislated mandate is defined in the Housing Supply and Services Act. We operate and maintain public housing units across the province in a variety of building styles, from single family homes to high-rise apartment buildings. As outlined in the province’s five year housing plan, Our Homes, Action for Housing, NSPHA supports the housing priorities of the Government of Nova Scotia. 

Work is underway on achieving key targets related to public housing, including:

  • Shortening unit turnaround time
  • Reducing wait times
  • Improving accessibility
  • Building consistency in our operations
  • Increasing energy efficiency 
  • Ongoing assessments of public housing stock
